In 2024, as on December 26 (Thursday), BSE Sensex closed 6,232.22 points or 8.62 per cent higher at 78,472.48 from 72,240.26 points on December 29, 2023. The Sensex touched year’s high of 85,836.12 points on September 26 and low of 70,370.55 points on January 23. NSE Nifty closed 2,018.80 points or 9.28 per cent higher at 23,750.20 on December 26, 2024, from 21,731.40 points on December 29, 2023.
Nifty touched year’s high of 26,216.05 points on September 26 and low of 21,238.80 points on January 23. Indian stock markets fell 7,364 points or 8.57 per cent from record high on Sept 26 owing to unabated FII outflows, geopolitical uncertainties, US Fed interest rate reports, etc.
Domestic companies during the year raised Rs1.64 lakh crore through 90 IPOs. In December alone, 15 companies raised Rs25,500 crore through public issues. Foreign investors invested around $14 billion in the primary markets this year, which is more than the previous record of 2021.
During this period, shares worth Rs1.39 lakh crore were sold to institutional investors. This is the highest figure ever for raising capital through public issues. In 2021, companies raised the highest amount of Rs1.18 lakh crore through IPOs. During this period, shares worth Rs41,997 crore were sold by the companies to institutional investors.
So far this year, 20 companies raised about Rs18,000 crore through rights issues as against Rs7,266 crore, and Rs3,884 cr in 2022.
The biggest-ever IPO of the Indian stock market was launched by Hyundai Motor India. Its issue size was Rs27,870 crore. Earlier, LIC’s public issue of Rs 21,008 crore in 2022 was the biggest IPO in the country so far.
